History

Humble Beginnings

Richmond Community Theatre Guild is the oldest, longest running African American theater company in the state of Virginia.  It was founded by the late Marguerita “The Beautiful” Austin, in October 1975.

The theater company is a federally qualified tax-exempt charitable organization.  Richmond Community Theatre’s motto is “The Ministry is in the drama and the dance,” which represents the essence of the group’s focus.
